ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
England fans were heard singing the song, which mocks German casualties during World War Two, at their friendly win over Bosnia-Herzegovina at St James' Park on Monday. After a recent campaign launched by the Football Supporters' Association urged Three Lions fans, "Please don't be a d*ck," German police chief Peter Both has echoed this sentiment.

WHAT THE GERMAN POLICE CHIEF SAID
He told : “That’s what I would say to them: Don’t be a d*ck. If they sing a song like this, I can’t change it. It’s not punishable in Germany. I hope that all the other peaceful and law-abiding fans say to them: ‘Stop it'. I know, and all people in Germany know, there is a long-lasting sporting rivalry between England and Germany. But it’s important for me to say it’s only a sporting one. Our countries have been, and remain, allies for over seven decades.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The police chief was speaking on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history and one that began the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany. Therefore, distasteful chants, such as the aforementioned one, should have no place at this year's competition.
